How do you curl your hair with a chi straightening iron?

I read online that you were supposed to use your straightening iron on your hair like a scissor and a ribbon but i tried and it didnt work and i asked a friend who is a hair stlyist and she said that wasnt how you do it and she tried to tell me how to do it but i didnt get it. Does anybody have step by step instructions or is there a how to video on youtube or something?How do you curl your hair with a chi straightening iron?
I know how to, but not exactly sure how to explain it. I had my stylist show me when I lived in FL. Maybe call around to other local salons and see if they can show you. That is the only way that I learned. It takes plenty of practice to get the hang of it. 1. part hair into four sections

2. select a small/medium sized chunk of hair from one of the 4 parts

3. put the chi iron at the botton of strand

4. twist the chi iron as you move up the strand, so that the hair wraps around the chi iron

5. hold for 20 seconds

6. release

7. repeat these steps until all hair is curled and uve reached ur desidered look
